Sharing Only One Printer [laserprinter] printable = yes printer = hl1430 path = /var/tmp Here, a share with the name laserprinter is defined, and this share needs just three options The first option is printable = yes, which indicates that this is a printer and not a shared directory The most important line is printer = hl1430, which refers to the queue as it is defined in the CUPS subsystem Make sure that a queue with this name exists in CUPS, or it won t work Lastly, the path = /var/tmp option indicates what directory CUPS should use for the temporary spooling of printer jobs When sharing printers with your Samba server, you have to take care of the drivers as well.

Previous versions of SQL Server have the DATETIME and SMALLDATE time data types for working with temporal data. One big complaint by developers has been that there was not an easy way to store just dates or just time. SQL Server 2008 contains several new temporal data types. You can now use the DATE and TIME data types as well as the new DATETIME2 and DATETIMEOFFSET data types.

You can install the drivers at the Windows workstation locally, but the disadvantage of this approach is it forces you to maintain them on each individual workstation, which is not an ideal situation for centralized network administration Therefore, it s easier to install printer drivers on the Samba server To do this, you need the share [print$], as shown in the example in Listing 10-6..

A UNION query is not really a join, but it is a way to merge the results of two or more queries together. I like to think of it as folding one table onto another table. One reason for using a UNION query is to view data with one query that combines data from a production table along with data that has been archived into another table. A UNION query combines two or more queries, and the results are returned in one result set. Here is the syntax: SELECT <col1>, <col2>,<col3> FROM <table1> UNION [ALL] SELECT <col4>,<col5>,<col6>FROM <table2> Figure 4-24 shows a diagram of how a UNION query might look. Each individual query must contain the same number of columns and be of compatible data types. For example, you could have an INT column and a VARCHAR column line up as long as the VARCHAR column contains only numbers.

First, there s the name of the directory where Samba stores the printer drivers. Next is the write list option that specifies which users are allowed to write to this directory; it should be write-accessible for root and members of the group ntadmin only. With these settings in place, you can set up the printer in your Windows environment, as described in the following procedure: 1. On Windows, start the Add Printer wizard. 2. Indicate that you want to add a network printer and then browse to the shared printer. When prompted, choose to install a new printer driver. 3. Now select the printer model for which you want to install the drivers. This installs the drivers automatically in the /var/lib/samba/printers directory.

Having retrieved a copy of the entity from the database, we now need to check several things. Listing 10-8 checks that an entity is retrieved, that it has the same primary key as that assigned during the call to create(), and that the retrieved account entity has been created with the same account name as the one originally persisted.
